Midnight Crew became one of the popular gospel groups especially with their hit song, Igwe. Since then, the group has won so many awards and even at the moment, has clocked 12 years.
The lead vocalist of the group, Patricia
Uwaje-King told Saturday Beats that the band became more popular just
as they conceived the idea of breaking up.
Uwaje-King said, “During our fifth year
together, we wanted to quit the group. We wanted to forget about the
crew because we had just finished school and we wanted to go and get
regular jobs. Immediately we finished talking about it in our supposed
last meeting, we felt it in our spirit that God wanted us to continue.
Shortly after, our eighth year together, God surprised us by announcing
us on a big platform with our hit song, Igwe in 2008.”
And the success of the song brought them
closer. They didn’t break up again even as they became a success as
some other gospel groups broke up.
“The vision of the group has kept us
together. Our vision is to pull down the walls of religion and put the
praise of God on the lips of all men. We want to make people sing
regardless of the tribe or denomination. We also put policies in place
to help guide us. We have some policies on relationships, families and
money,” Uwaje-King said.
